Lebanese National Resistance Front
LEBANESE NATIONAL RESISTANCE FRONT
An umbrella organization of leftist parties—the Lebanese Communist Party (LCP), the Organization of Communist Action, and the Socialist Action Party—created after the siege of Beirut in September 1982 to organize resistance against the Israeli occupation of Lebanon. After Israel withdrew from Beirut and the Shuf area to South Lebanon, the movement came—with Syrian assistance—to be dominated by Islamic groups such as AMAL and Hizbullah, and the secular, leftist groups were marginalized.
