Kemble, Eliza (1761–1836)
English actress. Name variations: Mrs. Whitlock. Born Elizabeth Kemble in 1761; died in 1836; daughter of Roger Kemble (an actor-manager) and Sarah (Ward) Kemble; sister of Sarah Siddons (1755–1831); aunt of Fanny Kemble (1809–1893); married Charles Edward Whitlock, in 1785.
In 1783, Eliza Kemble appeared in The Merchant of Venice with her sister Sarah Siddons at the Drury Lane. Following her marriage in 1785, Eliza accompanied her husband actor Charles Edward Whitlock to America and would make one other journey to that country before she retired in 1807, subsequent to her appearance as Elwina in Percy at the Drury Lane.
