American stage, tv and screen actress. Born Virginia Gregg Burket, Mar 6, 1916, in Harrisburg, Illinois; died Sept 15, 1986, in Encino, California; m. Jaime Del Valle (died 1981); children: three sons.
Had an active career in radio; films include Body and Soul, Journey to Nowhere, Spencer's Mountain, I'll Cry Tomorrow, Operation Petticoat, Casbah and Love is a Many Splendored Thing. Was the off-screen voice of Norman Bates' mother in Psycho.
