American wife of Ralph Waldo Emerson. Born Ellen Louisa Tucker in 1811 in Concord, New Hampshire; died of tuberculosis, age 19, Feb 8, 1831, in Massachusetts; m. Ralph Waldo Emerson (philosopher).
Met future husband (1827), became engaged (1828), and married him (Sept 30, 1829).
