Luigi Bianchi
Luigi Bianchi
1856-1928
Italian mathematician whose work on non-Euclidean geometries (i.e., geometries that are not based on figures on flat surfaces) was used by Albert Einstein in his general relativity theory. Bianchi's major work involved the theory of surfaces and differential geometry, a topic upon which he wrote several influential papers. In addition to his work in geometry, he also made fundamental contributions to the theory of groups and theories of complex variables.
