Tiberi, Frank
Tiberi, Frank, jazz tenor saxophonist, clarinetist, flutist, bassoonist; b. Camden, N.J., Dec. 4, 1928. He began club work at as a young teenager. He did performance tours with Bob Chester in 1948, and in the early 1950s with Benny Goodman, Urbie Green, Dizzy Gillespie, and others. For many years he has been in the Woody Herman band, first joining it under Herman in 1969 and then as its leader since 1987. He is a fascinating theoretician inspired by John Coltrane and has a legendary collection of unissued tapes of Coltrane performing in clubs.
