Poitevin, Guillaume
Poitevin, Guillaume , French composer; b. Boulbon, near Aries, Oct. 2, 1646; d. Aix-en-Provence, Jan. 26, 1706. He was a choirboy at St. Trophime in Aries. In 1663 he settled in Aix-en-Provence as a musician at St. Sauveur Cathedral, and then was maître de musique there from 1667 to 1693 and again from 1698. In 1665 he received the tonsure, in 1672 he was ordained, and in 1677 he was made a prebendary. Among his most notable pupils were Campra and Gilles. He was known as a composer of sacred music.
