Meluzzi, Salvatore
Meluzzi, Salvatore, Italian composer; b. Rome, July 22, 1813; d. there, April 17, 1897. He was maestro di cappella at the basilica of St. Peter’s in the Vatican, and for 45 years was director of the Cappella Giulia. Thoroughly versed in the art of the early Italian masters, he emulated them in writing masses, Requiems, antiphons, motets, hymns, and Psalms. Among his best pieces are a Stabat Mater and a Miserere.
