Maria Stuarda. Opera in 2 or 3 acts by Donizetti to lib. by G. Bardari based on Schiller's play. Act I, sc.iii, is often called Act II. When perf. was forbidden at Naples in 1834, mus. was used for opera with different plot, Buondelmonte. F.p. of Maria Stuarda, Milan 1835, NY (concert) 1964, NY City Opera 1972, London 1966 (St Pancras Fest.), 1973 (SW at Coliseum). Discovery of missing autograph score led to more authentic 2-act vers., prod. Bergamo 1989.
