Ivanov, Konstantin
Ivanov, Konstantin, Russian conductor and composer; b. Efremov, May 21, 1907; d. Moscow, April 15, 1984. He played trumpet in Soviet cavalry orchs., then enrolled in the conducting class at the Moscow Cons. After graduation in 1937, he served as asst. conductor at various operatic and sym. posts. From 1941 to 1946 he was conductor of the Bolshoi Radio Orch., and from 1946 to 1975 conductor of the State Sym. Orch. of the U.S.S.R. He made world tours with the latter organization, which included the U.S. and Japan, as well as countries of Western Europe. He wrote several symphonic poems and a Double Bass Concerto.
