Ferrabosco, Domenico Maria
Ferrabosco, Domenico Maria, Italian composer, father of Alfonso Ferrabosco, the Elder; b. Bologna, Feb. 14, 1513; d. there, Feb. 1574. He was active in Bologna as director of the public performances of the palace musicians (from 1540) and as a singer at S. Petronio. After serving as magister puerorum at the Cappella Giulia at the Vatican in Rome (1546--7), he returned to Bologna and became maestro di cappella atS. Petronio in 1548. From 1551 to 1555 he was again at the Vatican as a singer at the papal chapel, and eventually returned to Bologna. He publ. two vols. of madrigals (1542,1557) and a vol. of motets (1554). R. Charteris ed. his works in Corpus Mensurabilis Musicae, CII (1992).
