Boronat, Olimpia
Boronat, Olimpia, highly esteemed Italian soprano; b. Genoa, 1867; d. Warsaw, 1934. She was a pupil of Leoni at the Milan Cons. After appearing throughout Italy (from 1885), she toured in Spain, Portugal, and South America. In 1890 she became a member of the St. Petersburg Imperial Opera, where she was notably successful. In 1893 she married the Polish nobleman Rzewuski and retired from the stage. In 1901 she resumed her career and sang with renewed success in Russia. She also sang in Poland and then in Italy (from 1909). In 1922 she retired for good and settled in Warsaw as a voice teacher. Among her outstanding roles were Rosina, Elvira in I Puritani, Ophélie in Hamlet, and Violetta.
