Taegu
Taegu City in s central South Korea; capital of North Kyǒngsang province and the country's third-largest city. Successfully defended by United Nations' (UN) troops during the Korean War, it is the trading centre for a large apple-growing area. The main industries are textiles, including silk and synthetic fabrics. Pop. (2000) 2,480,000.
