Wailing Wall
Wailing Wall (ha-Kotel ha-Maʿaravi). Western Wall of the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem. The Wailing Wall was all that remained of the Temple after its destruction by the Romans in 70 CE. It is a place of pilgrimage and the most holy place in the Jewish world. Since 1967, when it came into Israeli hands, the area in front of the wall has been cleared and converted into a large paved area where Jews can gather and pray.
